Magical Mirai 2015 Setlist!

Published September 4, 2015 by Sarah

Funny, usually I know instantly when a Vocaloid concert is happening, but this one surprised me earlier today on Facebook. It would appear that Magical Mirai 2015 is underway! I must say, I am very impressed by this setlist. I’m dying for videos to be uploaded onto Youtube, some of these songs are ones that I have been ‘patiently’ waiting to see performed live!

  1. Tell Your World – Miku
  2. Raspberry*Monster – Miku
  3. Nice to Meet You, Mr. Earthling! – Miku
  4. Solitary Hide and Seek Envy – Miku
  5. Love Trial – Miku
  6. Sacred Spear Explosion Boy – Len
  7. Lost One’s Weeping – Rin
  8. Remote Control – Rin and Len
  9. Nostalgic – Meiko
  10. Snowman – Kaito
  11. Catwalk Envy – Miku
  12. Deep Sea Girl – Miku
  13. Sweet Devil – Miku
  14. 2-D Dream Fever – Miku
  15. Cat Food – Miku
  16. Unhappy Refrain – Miku
  17. Romeo and Cinderella – Miku
  18. glow – Miku
  19. Ai Dee – Miku and Luka
  20. Just Be Friends – Luka
  21. Shake It! – Miku, Rin and Len
  22. Packaged – Miku
  23. World is Mine – Miku
  24. ODDS & ENDS – Miku
  25. Hand in Hand – Miku
  26. 39 – Miku
  27. First Sound – Miku

As I said before, this is a really amazing setlist. One of the things I disliked about Magical Mirai before was the fact that it included all new songs. I am very attached to the older Mikupa concerts, therefore it makes me happy to be seeing some of those songs included in this setlist. I am also excited to be seeing songs such as Ai Dee and Lost One’s Weeping included. Those are some of my favorites, and it’s always exciting to see favorite songs performed. While there are still some songs that I’m dying to see added to newer setlists (*cough* Trick and Treat *cough*), I am pretty content with this year’s Magical Mirai.

What is your opinion on the setlist? Let me know in the comments below!

Review – Mutant Ninja Turtles Gaiden

Published August 14, 2015 by Sarah

A few days ago, I stumbled upon a webcomic by the name of Mutant Ninja Turtles Gaiden. (I stumble upon things a lot…) Though the internet warned me that it was going to be incredibly dark and depressing, I decided to read it anyway. I mean, what could go wrong? It was a combination of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and manga, two things that I really love.

For those who may not have heard of MNT Gaiden, here is a brief synopsis (courtesy of The story begins when the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were teenagers. Master Splinter receives a package from an unknown sender, but leaves it hidden as he teaches Leonardo an old technique. As this happens, the ever-curious Michelangelo recruits Raphael so they could find out what Splinter received. They both find an old, broken katana and, from then on, certain characters begin to act unusually out-of-character. The conclusion of the Prologue leaves the four brothers psychologically traumatized. Cut to seventeen years later, when the Ninja Turtles are adults. A mysterious fifth shows up on the news, causing the older Raphael and Donatello to resurface once more in an attempt to recruit it. However, the fifth turtle, whom Raphael names Renoir, knows nothing about how he became a turtle. All he remembers are his memories as a human named Augustus Amherst. Despite this, Raphael takes Renoir under his wing, making Renoir his student and establishing the set-up of the main story.

MNT Gaiden introduced many unique new characters.

Shadow Jones (a canon character in the original comics) is the teenage daughter of April and Casey. She takes after her father, fighting crime at night as a masked vigilante. Her best friends are Davianna Wallace and Augustus Amherst. The three of them were inseparable as children, though things changed after Augustus was presumed dead – devoured by a new mutant turtle. This new mutant, dubbed Renoir by Raphael, claims to be Augustus and has all of his memories. Much of the comic focuses on Renoir’s search for an identity.

My favorite character would have to be Carole Amherst, Augustus’s baby sister. (The funniest, and most adorable, scene in my opinion was when she excitedly showed Renoir the doll she made of his ‘fat friend’ – a.k.a. Raphael. XD )

As I don’t cry easily during fictional things (for some odd reason), I always find it almost exciting when one actually makes me cry. I cried a total of 5 times during this comic. That was more times than Fullmetal Alchemist, Madoka Magica, and Clannad combined! (What the heck?!?) You wouldn’t think that something TMNT related could be that depressing, but MNT Gaiden is a tear-jerker. Though it has its fair share of humorous and light-hearted scenes, it is VERY dark. Honestly, minus a few spelling and grammatical errors, it feels like a real manga. In fact, I read a lot of the character voices as some of my favorite anime voice actors! (Cherami Leigh as Shadow Jones, Vic Mignogna as Mikey, Todd Haberkorn as Renoir… Though, Raphael’s voice shall forever and always be Greg Abbey to me. πŸ™‚ ) Who knows? Perhaps someday, in the future, it could become a real anime.

Also, I’m not sure if it was intentional or not (probably was), but I noticed many a part that reminded me of Fullmetal Alchemist. The art-style was very Hiromu Arakawa-esque, and some of the scenes felt like references. (Seriously – I almost cried during Augustus’s funeral scene due to Carole’s vvveeeerrrryyy familiar reaction. 😦 )

Another enjoyable part is known as the Bakabakashii. The Bakabakashii is a series of silly 4-Koma. A lot of it is slapstick, but there are some really hilarious ones. (I died during the ‘Happy Pills’. XD)

I cannot give my full opinion of Mutant Ninja Turtles Gaiden due to the fact that it hasn’t been completed yet. The comic was started in 2003, and it’s most recent page was drawn July 10th 2015. This means only one thing……………………..I HAVE TO WAIT FOR INDIVIDUAL PAGES TO BE DRAWN!!!!!!!! 😦 (Hopefully, a full review will be written once it’s been completed.)

If you’re curious about the webcomic and wish to read it for yourself, click here. WARNING – VIOLENCE, LANGUAGE, AND DARK THEMES. It’s perfect for binge-reading. I read up to the current page in half a week. Trust me, if you’re a manga or TMNT fan (or both), then it’s truly worth the read!

Miki and Iroha V4 Demos!

Published June 1, 2015 by Sarah

As you probably already knew, Nekomura Iroha and SF-A2 Miki were getting new V4 voicebanks this year. Now, their demos are officially out! (Actually…they were out for a little while now…but I only just found out about them this morning!)

I’m going to give my personal opinions of their new voicebanks, and you can do the same in the comments if you’d like to.

I LOVE Miki-chan’s V4 voicebank. I think it fits her perfectly. It’s nice and soft, yet also quite powerful. She sounds even more human-like than before, and I love that so much! I’m looking forward for her to be released, so I can hear more of her.

However, I’m still not that pleased with Iroha’s voice. I am a HUGE fan of Hello Kitty, and a Vocaloid based off of Hello Kitty should be, like, my favorite thing, right? Sigh…she’s such a disappointment… While she’s sounding really human-like, which is nice, her voice just doesn’t suit a Hell0 Kitty Vocaloid, now does it? Sorry…I’ll stop ranting now… Her voice is more powerful than before, and has a nice sound to it, though I still don’t really like it.

So…what do you think of the new Miki-chan and Iroha-san? Let me know in the comments!

Did You Know? – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Published May 26, 2015 by Sarah

  • Did you know that Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman, the creators of TMNT, invented the turtles during a casual brainstorming session? In fact, the turtles were originally meant as a joke!
  • The original comics were very dark, graphically violent, and the turtles frequently cursed
  • The turtles were originally going to be given Japanese names, but none of them seemed to fit so they ended up being named after Renaissance artists. Actually, Donatello was originally going to be named Bernini, but Peter Laird wanted another ‘o’ name, so Donatello stuck.
  • In 1997-98, a live action TMNT show aired, and featured a female turtle named Venus de Milo. (However, the show was very poorly made, and Peter Laird HATED Venus.)

  • The Shredder’s character design was inspired by a cheese grater.
  • In the original comics, the turtles all had red masks. This was changed for the cartoon so that children could easily tell them apart. (Also, they weren’t pizza obsessed in the comics, and Michaelangelo didn’t crack jokes.)
  • In the 90s,Β  the ninja turtles had a live concert called ‘Coming Out of Their Shells’.
  • In some countries, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was changed to Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles, because calling them ninjas sounded too violent…
  • Casey Jones’ real name is Arnold.
  • There is actually an online ‘manga’ based on the ninja turtles called Mutant Ninja Turtles Gaiden, however it is super dark and takes place when the turtles are adults.

  • Apparently, the Mighty Mutanimals were supposed to get their own show, but it was scrapped.
  • The boy who accidentally dropped the turtles into the sewers is named Chet.
  • As a finale for the 4Kids cartoon, there was a movie called Turtles Forever that included the 4Kids turtles, 87′ turtles, and the Mirage turtles meeting each other.
  • In the Mirage comics, and also the 4Kids series, Mikey has a pet cat named Klunk
  • While their official surname is Hamato, in some versions the turtles go by the surname Splinterson

Are there any other cool facts about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that I forgot to mention? Tell me in the comments!

BABYMETAL – The Only Metal I’ll Ever Listen To

Published May 20, 2015 by Sarah

I have never ever enjoyed metal music (which sucks since everyone one else in my family loves it), but then I discovered BABYMETAL… This unique group, formed in 2010, was originally a sub-group of the Idol group called Sakura Gakuin, and it’s created the genre ‘Kawaii Metal’, which is a combination of heavy metal and idol music.

The girls are, in order: Yui Mizuno (Yuimetal), Suzuka Nakamoto (Su-Metal), and Moa Kikuchi (Moametal). Su-Metal is the lead vocalist, and Yuimetal and Moametal mainly dance and sing backup. All three of them admitted that they had never even heard of heavy metal until after joining the group. Yui even stated that metal music scared her at first, but that “It’s fun and I see why people enjoy it so much! I still don’t completely understand it, but I’m interested.”

This was their first song, titled ‘Doki-Doki Morning’. After this video was released on their official Youtube channel, it was an instant hit. Even some death-metal fans admitted that they enjoyed what BABYMETAL was doing. (However, there was an equal amount of negative comments too.)

One of my particular favorites is this song, called HEADBANGYA!!! A note I’d like to add – up until recently, everything in their concerts was prerecorded except for Su-Metal’s voice. She refused to be recorded, for she loves singing live. Now, they have a live band who plays during their concerts.

Yui and Moa make up a subgroup of BABYMETAL called ‘BLACK BABYMETAL’.Β  Their most popular song is Onedari Daisakusen.

Su-Metal also has a few solo songs, my personal favorite being Akatsuki. It’s so beautiful, and proof that BABYMETAL’s music isn’t all ‘silly and weird’.

If you pay attention in their videos, you’ll notice them making this interesting hand sign. It’s the ‘BABYMETAL version’ of the metal sign. It resembles a fox, and is the symbol of the kitsune. Actually, the kitsune (fox god) is one of their reoccurring themes. I make the kitsune hand sign all the time now… XD

Do you like BABYMETAL? What are some of your favorite songs? Let me know in the comments!

Why I Can’t Hate 4Kids TV

Published May 19, 2015 by Sarah

Ah…4Kids TV…how otakus despise you…

Like many fans of anime, I typically dislike anime dubbed by them. They censor EVERYTHING, they changed the music, they removed all Japanese text, they cut scenes and sometimes even entire episodes, they rearrange scenes….ugh, the list goes on and on. Plus, the majority of their voice actors weren’t very good and that made the shows even less enjoyable to watch.

But…can I truly say that I hate 4Kids?

Once upon a time, when me and my brothers were little, we watched a lot of TV – mainly 4Kids TV and Cartoon Network. Because of that, we watched a lot of anime. We watched Sonic X, Kirby Right Back At Ya, Pokemon, Yugioh (Actually, my brothers watched this more than I did. I honestly don’t remember anything about it other than the fact that the protagonist’s name is Yugi.), Bakugan, Beyblade (the world’s suckiest anime in both sub and dub…), etc…

After a while, I got older and stopped watching these shows. It wasn’t as if I didn’t like them anymore, it’s just that I felt as if I was getting a bit too old for them. Yet one day, for no apparent reason, I found myself on the Sonic the Hedgehog wiki. (I do that a lot.) I was reading a few pages about the anime, since I had remembered enjoying it when I was younger. I even ended up watching a few episodes on youtube, just ’cause I felt like it. Yet I noticed something odd while reading the wiki. It kept referencing to a ‘Japanese Version’ of the show. I knew that anime originated in Japan, but for some reason it had never occurred to me that there was an actual Japanese version of it. Apparently, the original Japanese version of Sonic X contained swearing, mild blood, and even character deaths! This made me curious enough to try watching this ‘Japanese Version’. To my luck, there were subtitled episodes on youtube!

(Listen to the Japanese opening, it’s great!)

And then I discovered Tokyo Mew Mew (which is Mew Mew Power in the 4Kids dub), and fell in love with it as well. Although it just occurred to me that I never actually finished watching it…

Then, I discovered Fullmetal Alchemist…but I’ve already made that crazy post, so you can read all about it here.

Want to know some more reasons why I still kind of love 4Kids TV (and a little bit of Cartoon Network)?

Well…why don’t ya meet my very first anime crush? :3

This is Lync Volan from Bakugan Battle Brawlers: New Vestroia. Sigh…I kind of find it hilarious that my first anime crush was a villain, a BAKUGAN villain, but he was sooooooo ADORABLE! ❀ ❀ ❀ I’m still kind of in love with him…. SPOILER WARNING: It devastating when he flippin’ died! Yes, my very first anime crush died! I still can’t believe that happened, especially in a Cartoon Network show…

And how about one of my favorite anime characters of all time, Cream from Sonic X? I know many people complain that her English voice actress is annoying and squeaky, but I find it super kawaii! (And don’t laugh, but she’s the base inspiration of one of my Black Butler OCs…)

And…not an anime…but I will always love the 4Kids Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Always. I’ve seen all the cartoon versions, but only this one can be my favorite. It’s got the perfect combination of lighthearted and dark scenes, and has FABULOUS voice actors. I mean, seriously, how can 4Kids mess up their dubs yet still have BRILLIANT voice acting for their cartoons? I am very very very much in love with Raphael’s voice actor in this. Why doesn’t his Nickelodeon voice actor use the accent? RAPH NEEDS THE ACCENT! XD

(However, I cannot believe that 4Kids censors any form of death in it’s anime, yet there are TONS of character deaths in TMNT????)

What more do I have to say? I LOVE 4Kids TV. Sure, they’ve ruined some of their dubs (One Piece and Mew Mew Power, for example), but I’m sure that I’m not the only person that was introduced into the world of anime through it. If I’d never watched 4Kids TV, I wouldn’t be the insane person that I am now. (That’s a good thing…right? XD)

Do you have any fond memories of 4Kids TV, or just anime in general? Let me know in the comments! πŸ™‚
